Sylhet, July 8 (UNB) - A young housewife was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband at Gorakpur village in Kanaighat upazila on early Saturday.

The victim was identified as Tahmina Akter Bilkis, 23, wife of Shamim Ahmad, 28, of the village.

Police said Shamim married Tahmina, daughter of Muhibul Alam of Nayakhel Dakkhin village in Jointapur upazila five years ago.

Sources said Shamim picked up a quarrel with Tahmina over a trivial matter late at night and at one stage strangulated her to death. Later, he went into hiding locking the room from outside.

In the early morning neighbours found the body in the room and informed the police.

Later, the law enforcers recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Victim’s father filed a case in this connection.
