5 alleged wild animal smugglers held

Pirojpur, July 8 (UNB) - Police on Sunday arrested five people from a residential hotel in the town, suspecting their involvement in smuggling wild animals.

The arrested are Abdul Majid Sardar, 60, of Sonapati village in Sirajganj district, Habibur Rahman, 40, of Joynagar village in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district, Abu Bakr Siddique, 30, of Gasura Bazar village, Yeasin Arafat, 38, of Sharif Bag village, Ayub Ali, 40 of Potoltona village in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka district.

Receiving secret information, police raided the hotel ‘Bilash’ and arrested them from a room at about 11am.

Police also seized a micro bus, a private car and some documents from their possessions.

The arrested admitted that they came here from Dhaka to collect wild animal named ‘gecko’.

The arrested were later produced before a local court that sent them to jail hajat.
