Dhaka, July 8 (UNB) – The country received US$ 56.03 billion in foreign aid as of May 31 this year since 1972, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said on Sunday.
“Bangladesh has been receiving foreign aid since its independence…of the total foreign aid, US$ 32.26 billion came in loan while US$ 23.77 billion as donation,” he told the House responding to a tabled question of Begum Sanjida Khanam (Dhaka-4).
Muhith said the foreign aid has been used and are being used in different areas -– infrastructure development, socioeconomic development and poverty alleviation -- under the Annual Development Programme. “This expenditure is playing a significant role in attaining economic growth.”
The Finance Minister said the country will require internal investment of 30 to 35 percent of the GDP (gross domestic product) to achieve 7 to 8 percent GDP growth in the future.
