News - Taj’s resignation manifestation of AL’s intra-party feud: BNP
Dhaka, July 7 (UNB) – BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said the resignation of Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj as an MP is the manifestation of the ruling party’s intra-party conflict.

“Intra-party conflict has led to Sohel Taj’s resignation. Coincidentally, his father also had to quit in the 70s as a minister of the then AL-led government for the same reason,” Fakhrul said.

He was talking to reporters before placing wreaths at the grave of party founder late president Ziaur Rahman along with Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Manjurul Alam, who has been appointed a member of BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council.

After a long drama, Sohel Taj, who was elected Member of Parliament in the last general election from Gazipur-4, tendered his resignation letter in person to the Speaker at his office on Saturday night.

Following the acceptance of the resignation, the parliamentary seat of Sohel Taj fell vacant on July 7.

About Padma Bridge project, Fakhrul said the government’s inaction against those involved in the graft of the mega project despite the World Bank’s repeated reminders prove that the whole government has plunged into corruption.

Terming Padma Bridge a dream project of the nation, he said the government has failed to construct the bridge despite its election pledge only because of corruption.

Asked about Mahmudur Rahman Manna’s comment on the possible third force, the BNP spokesman said, ”Every citizen of the country has the right to do politics. He (Manna) still belongs to Awami League as he didn’t resign from the party.”

Mayor Manjurul Alam reached the grave around 6:45pm and placed wreaths along with hundreds of BNP leaders and activists and offered fateha over there.

Later, he met BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office at night and presented her a bouquet.

Welcoming the Ctg Mayor, Khaleda asked him to carry out his given duty maintaining the organisational discipline.

She also asked the Chittagong unit BNP leaders to work together and get ready for intensifying the anti-government campaign after Eid-ul-Fitr.

The mayor thanked the BNP chief for making him a member of her Advisory Council.
