Goalanda (Rajbari), July 10 (UNB) – A minor girl was killed and her mother injured when a bus hit them at Canalghat in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Tania Akhter, 4, daughter of Tafazzal Mondal of Hossain Mondalpara village in the upazila.
Local sources said a bus of ‘Comfort Line’ knocked Tania and her mother Laily Begum down at about 11 am while they were crossing Doulatdia-Khulna highway to see picnic boats anchored in Canalghat, killing the minor girl on the spot and injuring her mother.
Outraged by the death of Tania in the road accident, locals blocked the highway for one hour, disrupting vehicular movement.
On information, upazila nirbahi officer Chowdhury Samia Yasmin and Rajbari assistant police super M Ashan Habib rushed in and pacified the angry mob.
Police recovered the body, said sub-inspector Firoj Ahmed of Goalandaghat Police Station, adding that they have sent radio messages to all police stations of the adjoining districts to arrest the bus driver and helper.
The injured was admitted to the upazila health complex.
