Two minors killed in road crashes in Magura, Sherpur

Dhaka, July 11 (UNB) - Two children were killed in separate road accidents in Magura and Sherpur districts on Tuesday.

In Magura, a schoolgirl was killed when a bus crashed into her at Shotokhali village on Jessore–Dhaka highway in Shalikha upazila around noon.

The deceased was identified as Rumi Khatun, 11, a student of Shotokhali Government Primary School and daughter of Liton Biswas of the village.

Officer–in-charge of Shalikha Police Station Monirul Islam said the Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ from Jessore hit Rumi from behind while she was crossing the highway on her way back home from school, leaving her dead on the spot.

Outraged by the death of Rumi in the road accident, locals and students blocked the highway for two hours, disrupting vehicular movement.

Later, the law enforces rushed in and took the situation under control.

A case was filed in this connection.

In Sherpur, a minor boy was crushed under the wheels of a truck in Dhonakusha area in Nakla upazila in the afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Atique, 6, son of Kalam Mia of the area.
 
Police and locals said a speedy truck knocked Atique down while he was crossing the road near his house, killing him on the spot.

Police seized the truck and arrested its driver.
