Extortionists attack trader’s house in Jessore; loot valuables

Benapole (Jessore), July 11 (UNB) – A gang of extortionists ransacked the house of a trader and looted valuables at Basundia in Jessore district town on Tuesday night.

Police said Syed Billal Hossain, owner of contracting firm Kaiyum Enterprise, has been running his business in Basundia intersection since long.

Billal said Rejaul Islam, 35, son of Ruhul Molla of village Baniagati in Sadar upazila demanded Tk 10 lakh as tolls from him a few days back which he refused to pay.

Rejaul along with his accomplices including Goni Sardar, Ashraful and Emon of the area again demanded the money from him on the night of July 4 and on his refusal they beat him indiscriminately and threatened to kill him.

Failing to realize the money, the gangsters attacked the house of Billal on Tuesday night in his absence and beat his mother Rabeya Begum and wife Shimu, leaving them seriously injured. They also looted Tk 1.6 lakh in cash, gold ornaments and mobile phone sets from the house and damaged Billal’s private car.

A case filed with Kotwali thana in this connection.
