Dhaka, July 11 (UNB) – Commerce Minister GM Quader on Wednesday directed the deputy commissioners to take legal action against the traders who will try to make ‘unjustified profit’ through selling essentials during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Commerce Minister made the directives during a meeting with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) on the second day of their ongoing conference at the Cabinet Division. Industries Minister Dilip Barua was also present.

“All support will be given to take legal action against the traders who will try to make windfall profit,” GM Quader told reporters after the meeting.  

He said the government is closely monitoring the market and has also instructed the businessmen to shun profit-mongering attitude.

The minister stressed market monitoring and said, “Directives have been given to strengthen the market monitoring.”  

Admitting that the prices of some essentials saw a sudden price hike across the country, the Commerce Minister said the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh is being made more dynamic to play a better role.

During the meeting, the Industries Minister asked the DCs to remain alert so that no one can create any artificial crisis of fertilizer in the country.
“I’ve asked them to stay alert so that artificial fertiliser crisis doesn’t take place,” Dilip Barua told UNB.

The DCs have also been directed to open an investment cell in each district so that the investors can get the required support from it, he added.

The three-day conference of deputy commissioners (DCs) began in the city on Monday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the conference at the International Conference Centre in Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
