Dhaka, July 12 (UNB) – Newly appointed Myanmar Ambassador on Thursday said their President Thein Sein who earlier postponed his Bangladesh trip will visit Dhaka in near future.

New Ambassador Myo Myint Than said this while presenting his credentials to President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban.

During the meeting, Than said Myanmar is keen to expand trade and commercial activities with Bangladesh considering it as a very close neighbour.

He also said direct road and rail links between Myanmar and Bangladesh will be set up soon apart from boosting commercial activities between the countries.

Welcoming the new Myanmar envoy, President Zillur Rahman said Bangladesh and Myanmar as neighbouring countries share common history and culture from the time immemorial.

The President mentioned that a new horizon in bilateral relations has ushered in between the two countries following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visit to Myanmar in 2011.

President Zillur, through the Ambassador, conveyed his greetings to his Myanmar counterpart Thein Sein saying, “I’ve been eagerly waiting to receive the President here in Dhaka.”

In response to the President, the Ambassador said President Thein Sein would visit Bangladesh in near future.

Myanmar President General Thein Sein who was scheduled to visit Bangladesh from July 15, 2012 postponed the three-day visit to Bangladesh due to domestic compulsions.

Secretaries to the President’s Office and senior official from the Foreign Ministry were present.

Earlier, the new Ambassador was given a guard of honour by the President Guard Regiment at Bangabhaban premises.
