News - Buet teachers, students submit memo to President
Dhaka, July 15 (UNB) – The agitating teachers, students and employees of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) submitted a memorandum to President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban on Sunday noon, demanding removal of its VC and Pro-VC.

They brought out a procession from the campus at noon and started marching towards Bangabhaban, but police obstructed the students and only allowed the teachers to go to the presidential palace.

A group of seven teachers, including Buet teachers’ association president Prof Dr Mujibur Rahman and secretary Ashraful Islam, submitted the memorandum to the President, also the Chancellor of the university.

Campus source said the students and teachers resumed their sit-in programme on the campus for the 5th consecutive day today to press home their demand.

General secretary of Buet Teachers Association Prof Ashraful Islam on Sunday told UNB that they will continue their movement until VC Nazrul Islam and Pro-VC Habibur Rahman are removed.

On Tuesday, the Buet authorities closed the country’s premier technological university for 44 days after the teachers’ association threatened to start class boycott for an indefinite period if the VC and the Pro-VC are not removed by July 14.
