Barisal, July 15 (UNB) – Following mysterious disappearances of a political leader, businessmen and some common people, two policemen went missing, 24 hours within each other, in the city last week.
They are: Shamim Akon, 32, a constable of Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) and also the driver of jeep of the deputy inspector general (DIG) of Barisal Range and Khokon Chandra Roy, 36, a constable of Barisal Court.
Kotwali police and court sources said Constable Khokan Chandra Roy mysteriously disappeared in the city on Tuesday (July 10).
Khokon`s wife Jharna Roy lodged a general diary with thana the next day. She said Khokon went out of his house to withdraw money from a GP fund on Tuesday afternoon and did not return home since then.
When contacted Kotwali thana officer Saheduzzaman, quoting his family and neighbours said an investigation into his mysterious disappearance has started following lodging of the complaint by Jharna Roy with the police station.
He said besides, messages have been sent to all police stations of the country about the incidence.
Hardly 24 hours after disappearance of Khokon, Constable Shamim went missing in the city in a similar way, OC Seheduzzaman said.
He informed that Khokon took a 10-day leave on Wednesday (July 11) and did not report back to his workplace after being called up to join his duty immediately on Friday.
Constable Al Amin Akon, younger brother of Khokon, said Shamim was granted 10 days leave by the authority with effect from Wednesday and mysteriously disappeared after going out of his rented residence in the city that morning.
``He did not return home and remained missing since then``, Al Amin said, adding ``His mobile phone, too, remained switched off since Wednesday``.
The DIG`s office send letter to Shamim`s residence asking him to join duty on Friday suspending the leave on emergency ground.
After that the authorities made several attempt to contact Shamim through his mobile phone but got no response as the phone has been switched, he added.
