Khulna, July 16 (UNB) – Road communications of 10 districts of Khulna division remained suspended for the second straight day today (Monday) as an indefinite strike enforced by the transport owners and workers continued.
The transport owners and workers enforced the strike in the 10 districts of the division to press home their six-point demand, including an end to extortion.
Their demands also include putting an end to irregularities and harassment to passengers and transport workers at Daulatdia Ferryghat and reducing traffic jam.
Transport owners and workers co-ordination committee announced the strike at a joint meeting at Jessore Bus Stand on Saturday evening.
Passengers were going through untold sufferings due to the transport strike.
“We had urged the authorities concerned to resolve their problems several times, but to no avail,” said joint convener of transport owners and workers co-ordination committee Abdur Rahim Dudu.
He said they would continue their strike until their demands are met.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Rajbari is scheduled to sit with the transport owners and workers at 11 am today at his office to resolve the crisis.
