
Kushtia, July 17 (UNB) – Another worker of Akij Bidi Factory who was injured as on-duty Ansar members opened fire on demonstrating workers at Hosnabad in Daulatpur upazila on Sunday died early today (Tuesday).
With the death of another worker, the death toll from the incident has risen to three.
Kala, son of Hazrat Ali of Koipal village in the upazila, succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Dhaka from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at about 5 am.
Earlier, two workers of the factory -- Raqibul, 22, and Mintu, 38 of Boiragirchar in the upazila -- were killed and 10 others injured when Ansar members opened fire on the demonstrators on Sunday.
Meanwhile, a case was filed on Monday night in connection with the killing of workers in Ansar shooting at Akij Bidi Factory.
Mintu’s brother Sentu filed the case against some unidentified people with Daulatpur Police Station.
Local sources several hundred workers of the factory started demonstrating in front of the factory on Sunday morning, demanding wage hike.
The trouble began when a group of workers loyal to the owners attacked the protesters, triggering a clash between the two groups.
At one stage, the on-duty Ansar members of the factory opened fire on the demonstrators, killing Raqibul on the spot and injuring at least 11 others.
Of the injured, Mintu died on the way to the local upazila health complex.
