
Dhaka, July 17 (UNB) – The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed 21 cases against 38 people in June last on charge of their involvement in corruption.
“Among the 38 people, 17 people are government officials and 8 businessmen,” ACC secretary Foyzur Rahman Chowdhury told a press conference at the ACC office in the city in the afternoon.
He said the ACC also submitted charge sheets in 77 cases in June last against 124 accused, including 45 government officials, three public representatives and 11 businessmen.
After investigation, the ACC has permitted to submit final reports on 26 graft cases, he said.
Foyzur Rahman said five graft cases were disposed of in June last while two people were convicted and three others cleared from graft charges.
The ACC received 5,778 graft allegations during the last six months (January –June) while 962 allegations in June last alone. After the scrutiny of all the allegations, the ACC accepted 586 graft allegations.
The corruption watchdog body sent recommendations to 26 ministers and departments for taking legal against those it received allegations during the last six months.
A total of 395 reports on irregularities and corruption were published in media during the same period and the ACC after reviewing the reports has decided to investigate 75 graft allocations, said the ACC secretary.
