Dhaka, July 18 (UNB) - Home Minister Advocate Shahara Khatun formally inaugurated a daycare centre at Rajarbag Police Lines on Wednesday.
With the inauguration of the day care centre under UNDP Bangladesh’s Police Reform Programme (PRP), the women members of Bangladesh Police will now be able to devote longer working hours without having to worry about their children’s safety.
The day care centre will provide a safe and secure environment for up to 36 children under the supervision of an adult while their parents, mainly women police officers, are at work.
Addressing the function the Home Minister said that the day care centre would help women members of the police force to balance their personal and professional life.
She hoped that the day care centre, the first of its kind for the Bangladesh police, would pave the way for similar initiatives across the public sector.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, IGP Hassan Mahmud Khandker and project manager of PRP Henk Van Zyl also addressed the function.
