
Dhaka, July 20 (UNB)-The body of popular fiction writer Humayun Ahmed who died at Bellevue Hospital in New York on Thursday will be brought home on Sunday.
Family sources said the first namaz-e-janaza of Humayun Ahmed will be held at Muslim centre in Jamaica on Friday after Jummah prayers. His family members will leave New York with the body for Dhaka on Saturday.
Humayun’s younger brother cartoonist Ahsan Habib said he may be buried at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur.
After nine months’ of fight against colon cancer, celebrated writer breathed his last at 11:30pm (Bangladesh time) in presence of his wife Meher Afroz Shaon, younger brother Mohammad Zafar Iqbal and publisher Mazharul Islam . He was 64.
The writer had undergone two major surgeries since he arrived in New York on Sept 14 last year for medical treatment.
The writer's condition was stated critical after he had undergone the second surgery on June 21, when doctors detected infection of an unknown virus on his body and were unable to treat it.
Humayun was diagnosed with colon cancer during a routine check-up in Singapore last year.
