Dhaka, July 20 (UNB) - Bangladesh beat Ireland by 1 run in the second Twenty20 at Civil Service Cricket Club, Stormont on Friday to clinch the three-match series with one match to spare.

In reply to Bangladesh’s 146 for 6, Ireland finished on 145 for 6.

With the hosts required 10 runs off the last over, Mahmudullah who conceded only 4 runs in the 18th over came to bowl the last over.

He allowed the two Irish batsmen -- AD Poynter and EC Joyce -- to take only 2 runs off the first three balls.

And Mahmudullah struck double on the trot and took Poynter and Joyce on the 4th and 5th balls, leaving the hosts to need 8 runs off the last ball.

Though Trent Johnston hit six off the last ball, it was not enough to win the match.

Elias Sunny took two wickets for 18 runs while Mahmudullah the same for 28 runs for Bangladesh.

Earlier, the visiting Tigers scored 146 for 6 in their 20 overs opting to bat first after winning the toss.

Nasir Hossain hit an unbeaten 50 off 33 deliveries with four boundaries and two sixes. Ziaur Rahman scored 14 before giving catch to William Porterfield off Max Sorensen.

Mohammad Ashraful who opened the innings scored 38 off 46 deliveries with just two fours. Sorensen made him a catch of Poynter.

Max Sorensen with two wickets for 34 runs was the most successful bowlers for the hosts.
