News - Buet teachers, students resume agitation
Dhaka, July 21 (UNB)-The agitating teachers, students and officials of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) resumed their sit-in in front of the council building of the university Saturday morning after a two-day break.

They started the sit-in from 11 am and will continue it till 1 pm on the campus.

General secretary of Buet Teachers’Association Prof Ashraful Islam told UNB on Saturday that they would continue their demonstration until the removal of VC Nazrul Islam and Pro-VC Habibur Rahman.

Asked about their threat of en masse resignation, he said their decision will remain unchanged until their demands are fulfilled.

A meeting of the association will be held at the campus at 11:30 am today.

On July 16, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid held a meeting with the former VC, deans and department heads to take their opinions to break the deadlock of the university.

However, the teachers threatened to resign en masse on Sunday, just 40 minutes after the meeting, as no solution came from the meeting.

A day after the Education Minister’s remark that the agitating teachers threat of en masse resignation was hindering solution, teachers of Buet on Wednesday postponed their agitation programme for two days.

The Buet teachers, students and employees have been continuing their agitation since July 11 to press for their 16-point demand, including the removal of its VC and Pro-VC.
