Khulna, July 21 (UNB) - In a rare case, a woman of Gopalganj district gave birth to quintuplets –- a boy and four girls -- at a government hospital here on Saturday.

Shimu Begum, 23, wife of UP member Gaffar Khan of Kakpara union of Sadar upazila of Gopalganj, gave birth to the five children at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) after a cesarean section at about 9 am.

All the five infants, weighing two kilograms on average, are in good health, said doctors.

Four of them were kept at the child ward while the other in an incubator as it was little bit underweight.

Gaffar said his wife was first admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital where it was known that there were five babies in her womb.

Later, she was shifted to the KMCH on July 17 where she was kept under close observation for 72 hours. And finally, Shimu gave birth to the five infants one after another today.
