
Dhaka, July 22 (UNB)-A flight of Emirates Airlines carrying the body of prolific writer Humayun Ahmed left New York for Dhaka at 9:26 am (Bangladesh time) Sunday.
Humayun Ahmed’s wife Meher Afroz Shaon, mother-in-law Tahura Ali MP, sister-in-law Senjuti, owner of Anno Prokash Mazharul Islam, two sons Nishad and Ninit are also in the flight.
Bangladesh’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Dr AK Abdul Momen, consul general Sabbir Ahmed Chowdhury and Humayun Ahmed’s childhood friend Fangshu Mandal saw them off at John F Kennedy airport.
Bangladesh’s UN mission supervised the matter of bringing Humayun Ahmed’s body home.
After reaching home on Monday, his body would be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar for people to pay their last tributes. Later, Humayun’s body will be taken to National Eidgah for janaza.
His body will be kept in the mortuary of BIRDEM Hospital in the night. The body will be taken to Nuhash Palli on Tuesday for burial.
The popular fiction writer's first janaza was held at the Jamaica Muslim Centre in New York after the juma prayers on Friday. Several thousands fans and admirers joined the janaza to pray for the departed soul of their favourite writer.
Humayun Ahmed died at 11:30pm Thursday (Bangladesh time) at Bellevue Hospital, New York, after a nine-month battle against cancer, bringing the curtains down on an illustrious career of nearly four decades. He was 64.
Wife Shaon, younger brother Mohammad Zafar Iqbal, who is also an accomplished writer, and publisher Mazharul Islam were with Humayun when he died.
