
Dhaka, July 23 (UNB) – Celebrated fiction writer, playwright and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed will be laid to eternal rest on Tuesday but his family could not decide yet where he would be buried.
The family members however will sit at evening for taking decision over his burial place.
After the second namaz-e-janaza at National Eidgah the body of the popular writer was kept BIRDEM's mortuary for the night, family sources said.
The second namaz-e-janaza of Humayun Ahmed was held at the National Eidgah at 2:30pm after his body was taken there from the Shaheed Minar.
Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Khatib Prof Maulana Muhammad Salahuddin conducted the janaza.
Thousands of people from all walks of life, including politicians, educationists, cultural personalities and leaders of different socio-cultural organisations, attended the janaza to pray for the eternal peace of the popular writer.
Earlier, the body was taken to the Shaheed Minar around 10:25 am from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for people to pay their last respects to him.
A flight of Emirates Airlines carrying the body of Humayun Ahmed touched the runway of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at about 8:55 am.
Humayun's two brothers Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and Ahsan Habib, son Nuhash and two daughters Shila and Nova received the body at the airport.
Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes, Joint General Secretary of Awami League Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif and State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and Special Assistant to the prime minister (Media) Mahbubul Haque Shakil and APS to the prime minister Saifuzzaman Shikhor also received the body on behalf of the government, ruling party and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina respectively.
Humayun's wife Meher Afroz Shaon, two sons Nishad and Ninith, mother-in-law Tahura Ali, sister-in-law Senjuti Afroz and publisher Mazharul Islam accompanied the body.
The popular fiction writer's first janaza was held at the Jamaica Muslim Centre in New York after juma prayers on Friday. Several thousands fans and admirers joined the janaza to pray for the departed soul of their favourite writer.
Humayun Ahmed died at 11:30pm Thursday (Bangladesh time) at Bellevue Hospital, New York, after a nine-month battle against cancer, bringing the curtains down on an illustrious career of nearly four decades. He was 64.
