Dhaka, July 27 (UNB) - Plainclothes police arrested two criminals, who used to blackmail people into paying toll after planting bombs, from the city’s Pallabi area on Thursday night.

The arrested were identified as Foyez Akhter, 24, and Babul Hawlader, 25.

Unidentified miscreants planted a bomb near the staircase on the ground floor of the building of Harun-ur Rashid of Parris Road area in Pallabi on the night July 18 and demanded Tk 10 lakh to him, threatening to blow up the building unless their demand was met.

On information, police and a bomb expert team of Detective Branch of Police rushed in and defused the bomb.

Later, a case was filed in this connection.

On Thursday, a DB team, led by assistant commissioner M Touhidul Islam, conducted a special drive in the Parris Road area at about 11 pm and arrested Foyez and Babul.

The detectives also recovered the SIM with which they demanded toll to Harun.
