News - Fakhrul flays PM for calling Abul patriot
Dhaka, July 27 (UNB) - BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday termed ‘irresponsible’ the Prime Minister’s remarks that former Communications Minister Abul Hossain is a patriot.

“The Prime Minister has made unguarded remarks by calling Abul Hossain, who resigned on charge of corruption in the Padma Bridge project, a patriot. The nation doesn’t expect such impudent comments from a responsible person like the Prime Minister,” he said while addressing an Iftar party.

Bangladesh Islamic Party arranged the programme at a city hotel marking its 33rd founding anniversary.

Speaking at the programme, Fakhrul said the government is confusing country’s people with its dual policy on the bridge project. “On one hand, the government is trying to negotiate with the World Bank to revive the loan deal and on the other hand branding the WB as a corrupt institution.”

Voicing grave concern over the Prime Minister’s remarks made in London that the forced disappearance will not be stopped soon, he said the politicians are not safe after her comment. “The Prime Minister’s remarks make the politicians frightened. It’s an ominous sign for our politics.”

Terming the government failed in all fronts, the BNP leader said the government has no right to stay in office.

He also urged the government to quit right now and hold election under a non-party caretaker government.
