News - Jamdani fair begins in city
Dhaka, July 28 (UNB) – In a bid to ensure justifiable prices of traditional Jamdani andweaved sarees for the weavers, the government will set up a permanent display and sales centre at Rupganj in Narayanganj, Industries Minister Dilip Barua said here on Saturday.

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) will set up the centre at Noapara of the district.

Barua said this while inaugurating a month-long fair titled ‘Jamdani Weaved Clothes Exports Fair’ at Sidwessari Girls’ High School field. Bangladesh Weavers Products and Manufacturers Business Association arranged the fair.

Though the Moslin lost, the minister said, Jamdani is still there in the market with its pride. “Huge foreign currency can be earned through diversifying the design and fashion of Jamdani saree.”

Handicraft Foundation director Poet Rabindra Chandra Gop, Association president SM Khalilur Rahman, senior vice president M Salah Uddin, vice president Mojibur Rahman and the entrepreneurs involved in the Jamdani industry were also present.

The fair with 81 stalls will remain open from 10am to 10pm until Eid-ul-Fitr.
