Dhaka, July 28 (UNB) - Chairman of a faction of Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ) Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini has censured the Prime Minister for calling former communications minister Abul Hossain ‘patriot’.
“It’s not worth of a prime minister to term a thief a patriot,” Amini said while addressing a kafela of Olema-e-Keram (delegations of Islami scholars and spiritual leaders) who met him on Saturday.
Three delegations from Jessore, Comilla and Chandpur called on Amini, also the Ameer of Islami Ain Bastobayan Committee (Islamic Law Implementation Committee) at his Lalbagh office in the afternoon.
Addressing them, Amini said the government is not attaching importance to the interest of the country, as its priority is to gain party and family interests.
“The government is not working for the country and the nations as it is prioritising the interest of the party in power and a particular family,” Amini said in an oblique reference to Awami League and the family of the head of the government.
About former communications minister and ICT minister Abul Hossain, Amini said he (Abul) is a corrupt person recognised by the world.
“When a prime minister showers praise on a world-recognised corrupt person, terming him a `real patriot` it becomes clear to all that those who are corrupt are patriot,” Amini said referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina`s comment on Abul Hossain, who stepped aside last week in the face of widespread criticism following the World Bank’s allegation that he was involved in Padma Bridge project corruption.
About governance, the IOJ leader said the country is being run without a government.
“There’s no government in the country as it seems that the country is being run the way an organisation run without a management,” he observed.
Senior leaders of the IOJ and Khelafat-e-Islami, the two components of BNP-led 18-party alliance, were present.
