Seven killed in Narsingdi, Mymensingh

Dhaka, July 28 (UNB) - Seven people were killed in a clash in Narsingdi and a mob-lynch attack in Mymensingh on Saturday.

According to reports reaching the UNB news desk, three people were killed and 48 others injured in a clash between the supporters of two Pirs (Spiritual leaders) at Kacharikandi village in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi.

The deceased were identified as Khoka Mia, 32, Ejaz Mia, 35, and Faruk Mia, 40, of the village. All of them were the followers of Kashimpur Pir in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.

Police said the clash between the supporters of Charmonai Pir in Barisal and that of Kashimpur Pir erupted at about 8 am following an altercation between them over a religious dispute.

Both the groups equipped with homemade lethal weapons attacked each other and exchanged gunfire, leaving Khoka Mia killed on the spot and 50 others injured.

On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control at about 12:30pm.

Locals said about 25 people were struck by bullets in the fierce fight.

The injured were taken to hospitals in Narsingdi and Raipura and Nabinagar upazila health complex in Brahmanbaria. Of the injured, Ejaz and Faruk died after admission to Nabinagar upazila health complex.

In Mymensingh, four alleged thieves were beaten to death by an angry mob at Balipara in Trishal upazila in the morning. The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Police said a gang of 10 thieves stole two electric transformers from Balipara area at about 3 am. When the thieves were fleeing with the transformers in a truck local, people chased them. On information, police also chased the truck carrying the thieves.

At one stage, local people caught the 10 thieves and beat them black and blue, leaving all injured. The injured were rushed to Trishal health complex where four thieves succumbed in the morning.

Police seized the truck and the stolen transformers.
