Comilla, July 29 (UNB) - Five people, including two women, were killed and 13 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck at Iliotganj Bazar in Daudkandi upazila on Sunday morning.
Four of the deceased were identified as Lutfur Rahman, 40, son of Ali Ahmed of Kalmia village in Sadar South upazila; Dipak, 22, son of Gourishankar of Jagania village in Barura upazila; Monwara Begum, 60, wife of Punna Mia of Ladoir village in Muradnagar upazila; and Selina Akhter, 35, wife of Shahidullah Majumder of Puskarani village in Laksam upazila in the district.
Officer-in-charge of Mynamati Highway Police Station Jahangir Alam said a Dhaka-bound bus of “Prime Paribahan” from Comilla plunged into a roadside ditch after it collided with a truck on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at about 9:30 am, killing two passengers and a pedestrian on the spot and injuring its 15 occupants.
The injured were rushed to Gouripur Hospital in the upazila where two of them succumbed to their injuries.
Relatives received the bodies of the four identified people without any autopsy while the body of the unidentified man was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for post mortem.
Police seized the bus and truck.
A case was filed in this connection.
