Dhaka, July 29 (UNB) – Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Sunday expressed doubt whether the government will be able to complete the trial of war criminals and implement the Padma Bridge project.
“I’ve doubt whether the trial will complete …everybody has doubt over the implementation of Padma Bridge project,” the former President said while addressing a pre-Iftar discussion at Diploma Engineers Institute in the city.
Ershad also alleged that the government is now busy only with these two issues, overlooking public sufferings. “They (govt) are now in a deep revere of returning to power. They don’t think of people. The new generation is heading towards destruction.”
Criticising the government for its failure to check the widespread food adulteration across the country, Ershad said, “People have become helpless and been suffering a lot. The government isn’t worried about that.”
He urged the government to go tough against the food adulteration to protect people from health hazards.
The JP chief also voiced dissatisfaction over the wide circulation of fake notes in the market. “Fake notes are everywhere, even in the Bangladesh Bank. Where will we go?”
Ershad said there are three elections ahead, including the national one, and urged his party leaders and activists to get ready for the polls. “People want a change. If we can nominate worthy candidates, we’ll emerge as the winners and can help save the country.”
He claimed that people still want to get back the ‘golden’ days of his regime and hoped his party will come to power in the future.
JP secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawlader, MP, Kazi Jafar Ahmed and Kazi Firoj Rashid also spoke on the occasion.
Ruhul Amin said the party will strengthen its countrywide activities after Eid-ul-Fitr and will go to people’s door to seek their support. “People want to see Ershad in power again.”
Firoj Rashid urged the JP Chief to come up with a bill in parliament against the food adulteration keeping a provision of capital punishment for those who will involve in food adulteration and mixing ‘poison’.
