NEWCASTLE, England, JULY 31 (AP/UNB) - Canada advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's Olympic football tournament with a 2-2 draw against Sweden on Tuesday.
Canada had to come from behind after Sweden went up 2-0 early at St. James' Park, with goals from midfielder Marie Hammarstrom in the 14th minute and forward Sofia Jakobsson in the 16th.
Canada forward Melissa Tancredi pulled one back just before halftime after Sweden lost possession in midfield and then scored the equalizer in the 84th.
Sweden had already had qualified for the next round from Group F.
