
Sylhet, Aug 1 (UNB) – A housewife who was stabbed by her husband at Surma Residential Area in the city on Sunday night has died, taking the death toll from the shocking incident to two.
Sabina Sultana Sumi, 28, wife of Mostaque Ahmed Tipu, succumbed to her injuries at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Tuesday evening.
Earlier, Aftab Ali, 56, died soon after he was stabbed by his son Tipu on Sunday night.
Police said Tipu stabbed his father Aftab and wife Sumi at about 8 pm on Sunday night over a family dispute, leaving them seriously injured.
They were whisked off to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Aftab dead. And now Sumi succumbed to her stab injuries after fighting for life for two days.
Locals caught Tipu while fleeing after the incident and handed him over to police after a mass beating. He was now being treated at the same hospital under police custody.
Sumi, a mother of three children and daughter of Matiur Rahman of village Katia in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district, returned home along with husband, kids and father-in-law from London on July 19.
Masuk Mia, brother of Aftab, filed a case against Tipu in this connection.
