Dhaka, Aug 1 (UNB) – A parliamentary watchdog body on Wednesday suggested the government to take necessary steps to check ‘illegal international call termination’.

The JS body on the Posts and Telecommunications Ministry recommended modernising the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) through resolving its technical faults to avert illegal call termination.

The watchdog body also suggested quick measures to boost revenue through increasing the number of international calls that dropped sharply in recent months. The number of international calls came down to 3 crore in recent days from 5 crore, the JS body said.

The recommendations came from the 40th meeting of the committee with its chairman Hasanul Haque Inu in the chair.

The meeting laid emphasis on realising the arrears of the BTCL that it owns from different international carriers related to international call termination business. It also advised to maintain transparency in realising the dues.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, committee members ASM Firoj, M Abdul Kuddus, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Moazzem Hossain Ratan and Golam Mostafa were present at the meeting.
