Khaleda hosts Iftar party for foreign diplomats

Dhaka, Aug 1 (UNB) - BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia hosted an Iftar party for the foreign diplomatists working in Bangladesh at a city hotel on Wednesday.

Khaleda, also the Leader of the Opposition in parliament, exchanged greetings with the invited guests at the high-profile Iftar party which was followed by dinner.

The BNP chief took Iftar flanked by Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of State of Palestine in Dhaka Shaher Mohammad, Saudi Ambassador Dr Abdullah Bin Naser Al Busaire, US Ambassador W Mozena and ambassadors of China, Japan, Kuwait, Qatar and Indonesia.

Ambassadors, high commissioners and mission chiefs from 45 countries, including India, Pakistan, the UK, Russia, Canada, Australia, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Morocco, Brunei, France, Iran, Iraq, Myanmar, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Thailand, Norway, Nepal, Bhutan, Egypt and Vatican City, attended the party.

Representative from the European Union, the World Bank and different international organisation also joined the party.

Senior BNP leaders, including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Dr RA Gani, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister, Tariqul Islam, Jamir Uddin Sircar, Lt General (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, MK Anwar, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Mirza Abbas, Brigadier (retd) ASM Hannan Shah and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, party vice-chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, ex-DU VCs Prof  Dr Emajuddin Ahamed, and Prof Moniruzzaman Miah, noted economist Wahiduddin Mahmud, former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed were, among others, present at the party.

Prior to the Iftar, a special prayer was offered seeking divine blessings for the welfare of the Muslim Ummah as well as the world community.
