Dhaka, Aug 2 UNB) -Turning a deaf ear to the defence objections, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 directed the defence lawyer for Jamaat-e-Islami leader war crimes accused Delwar Hossain Sayedee to complete the cross-examinations of the investigation officer by August 8.

On the 42nd working day’s cross-examination of IO ASP M Helal Uddin by advocate Mizanul Islam, chairman of the three-member tribunal Justice M Nizamul Huq set the deadline to make the time limit system operational.

The cross-examination of the IO by the defence counsel began on April 25.

Earlier, IO Helal had exhausted nine working days to conclude his deposition before the tribunal against detained Sayedee who faces war crimes charges.
 
On April 8, the investigation officer dealing with the crimes against humanity during the Liberation War started making his deposition before the tribunal-1 against Sayedee.  

The tribunal recorded the statement made by the IO who during investigation found Sayedee as a listed Razakar, an auxiliary force under the Pakistan occupation army, at Parerhat in Pirojpur district during the 1971 Liberation War, had perpetrated the crimes against humanity in collaboration with the occupation forces.     

During the investigation, the IO told the tribunal that he had perused various information, documents, newspaper reports and different books published on the Bangladesh Liberation War and visited websites available in this regard to find out facts.
 
Referring to various speculations outside about the progress of the tribunal that deals with the crimes against humanity, the tribunal said the order was passed for ends of justice keeping in mind so that nobody is prejudiced.
 
 “Hope, this will serve the purpose of both the defence and prosecution counsel,” said the tribunal.
