Bangladesh to play South Africa on Friday in their 2nd practice match

Dhaka, Aug 02 (UNB) – Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team, now in Australia to participate in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup, will play South Africa in their 2nd practice match tomorrow (Friday) in Brisbane.

Bangladesh Youth Cricket team conceded a 31-run defeat against West Indies in their first practice match played at Caloundra Cricket Club in Brisbane on Wednesday.

Earlier, Bangladesh Cricket Board has arranged two extra practice matches for their team in addition to two official warm-up matches against Scotland on August 7 and against South Africa on August 8 giving the side a total of four preparatory matches before the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup.

Bangladesh, which was put in Group D along with South Africa, Sri Lanka and Namibia, will take on Sri Lanka on August 11, South Africa on August 12 and Namibia on August 16.

If Bangladesh wants to play in the Cup competitions, then they have to beat either or both Sri Lanka and South Africa.

In the first practice match on Wednesday, West Indies batted first and scored 249 runs for 7 in stipulated 50 overs with Kraigg Brathwaite making 99 runs off 138 balls hitting four boundaries.

Besides, Sunil Ambris (41), Anthony Alleyne (26), Akeal Hossain (24) and
Kyle Mayers (17) were the other notable scorers for the Caribbean team.

Taskin Ahmed, Dewan Sabbir and Nur Hossain Munna of Bangladesh took two wickets each conceding 41, 59 and 46 runs respectively.

In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out for 218 runs in 48.1 overs.

Liton Kumar Das contributed the team’s highest 63 runs off 104 balls featuring two fours and one six while lower order Al Amin Jr quickfired 24-ball 44 runs hitting three fours and three sixes.

Besides, Asif Ahmed Ratul (35), Mosaddek Hossain Saikat (31) and Soumya Sarker (14) were the other leading scorers for Bangladesh.

Kyle Mayers took three wickets for 49 runs while Justin Greaves and Jerome Jones took two wickets each conceding 28 and 39 runs respectively.
