Dhaka, Aug 4 (UNB) - Describing late popular writer Humayun Ahmed as an asset of the nation, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday urged all not to play any dirty game over the writer.
“Please, refrain from playing dirty game over the late writer. Those who have filed a case and a counter-case over the writer’s death are apparently trying to belittle him. Be respectful to his works if you want to show respect to him,” Fakhrul urged the countrymen.
He came up with the call at a commemorative meeting on Humayun Ahmed at a city hotel, organised by Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas), a pro-BNP forum.
Showing his political prudence, Fakhrul declined to deliver any political speech at the meeting when requested to do so by someone from the audience, saying, “I’m sorry… I won’t give any political speech in a memorial meeting of a national hero.”
Calling upon all not to restrict Humayun to any political platform, the BNP spokesman said his works will have to spread to all.
“There should be no talks over his personal life…instead the focus should be on his works. Nobody will be able to harm Humayun Ahmed by creating controversy over his personal life and wealth. He will remain immortal among the Bangali nation with his write-ups,” Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader also asked Jasas to celebrate his birth and death anniversaries every year commemorating the writer’s works and contributions to the country’s literature.
Celebrated fiction writer, playwright and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed died on July 19 at Bellevue Hospital, New York, after a nine-month battle against cancer at the age of 64, bringing the curtain down on an illustrious career of nearly four decades.
He was laid to eternal rest at ‘Nuhash Palli’ in Gazipur on July 24.
On august 1, advocate Nazrul Islam, claiming him as fan of the wrier, filed a case with the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Chittagong ABM Nizamul Haque.
In his case statement, Nazrul alleged that Humayun Ahmed was killed in a pre-planned way. “Shaon and Mazharul murdered him in connivance with each other to grab his property,” the plaintiff told the court.
A day later, another apprentice lawyer, claiming her also a fan of the wrier, lodged a defamation case against Nazrul for maligning Humayun’s family members and hurting his fans.
In her complaint, Nurjahan said the murder case which was filed by Nazrul was only to tarnish the image of the family members of the illustrious writer.
