News - BGMEA Gorbo’12 music contest begins Sunday
Dhaka, Aug 4 (UNB) - The music contest, ‘BGMEA Gorbo-2012’, with the participation of garment workers will formally be inaugurated here on Sunday.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith will be present as the chief guest at the inaugural session to be held at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel.

Commerce Minister GM Quader, US Ambassador Dan Mozena, diplomats of other countries, economists and civil society members will also be present.

A CD of songs titled ‘Amader Gaan’ sung by the 10 best singers of Gorbo-2010 will also be released at the function that will begin at 4pm.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with TV programme-producer Matra to organise the music contest ‘Gorbo-2012.’

M Atiqul Islam, former vice president of BGMEA and chief coordinator of `Gorbo-2012` and Afzal Hossain, eminent TV personality and managing partner of Matra, inked the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations at a function held with BGMEA president Md Shafiul Islam in the chair.

According to the MoU, Matra will assist BGMEA to organise and stage reality TV programme Gorbo-2012 as its event partner.

The final round of the music contest of garment workers, which will also feature 33 episodes, will be staged at Banani Army Stadium.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to be present at the grand finale and distribute prizes among the recipients.
