FRANKFURT, Aug 06 (AP/UNB) - Police have begun clearing the Occupy Frankfurt camp of anti-capitalist protesters next to the European Central Bank headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany.
Police put up barricades around the several dozen tents and were asking people to leave voluntarily without the use of force. Several protesters banged drums or blew whistles and chanted "Occupy, Occupy."
A small crane picked up heavy objects such as old sofas and loaded them in the back of a truck for removal.
The clearing follows a court ruling upholding the city ordnances s against camping on city-owned parkland.
City officials Joerg Bannach said Monday the city was trying to clear the camp "as peacefully as possible."
