Dhaka, Aug 6 (UNB) - BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday condemned an attack by ruling party ‘cadres’ on a party procession in Barisal City’.
As part of the BNP-led 18-party alliance’s countrywide demonstration programme, Barisal City unit BNP brought out the procession in the city Monday morning.
At one stage, some ruling party men allegedly attacked the procession, leaving 15 BNP leaders and activists injured.
In a statement, Fakhrul said the ruling party has kept on making attacks and filing ‘false cases’ against opposition activists to stop the ongoing anti-government movement.
As part of the government’s repressive acts to subdue the opposition campaign, the ruling party cadres attacked the peaceful procession of the opposition without any provocation.
He also demanded the government arrest the attackers and mete out exemplary punishment to them.
