Dhaka, Aug 07 (UNB) – Five alleged robbers were held in Faridpur and Comilla districts in the last nine days ending on Tuesday morning for committing robbery at an ex-ward councilor`s house in Dhaka on June 28.
Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive and arrested robber Sabbir, 28, from his Homna upazila hideout in Comilla on July 31.
Following his confessional statement the detectives raided dacoit Iqbal Alamgir`s house in Meghna upazila of Comilla and held him recovering a foreign-made revolver, two gold-made chains and two bangles (wristlet) on Aug 1,
Following their statements Khalil Mahbub, 57, was held in Meghna upazila on Sunday while two other gangsters- Zakir, 25, and Gani, 25, were rounded up in Meghna upazila and Boalmari upazila of Faridpur respectively on Tuesday.
DB police and Bhatara thana officer-in-charge said the five dacoits sneaked into the house of Hazrat Ali, former DCC ward councilor, on holding No 24/6 at Kuriil Badda under the capital`s Bhatara police station and looted at gun point cash Tk 600,000, 100 tolas of gold ornaments, a .32 bore foreign-made licensed revolver of the ex-ward councilor and six bullets and decamped with the booties at dead of night on June 28.
A case was filed with Bhatara thana and Bhatara police along with the detectives launched investigation into the robbery.
DB police held the five dacoits along with the stolen revolver, bullets, cash money and gold ornaments from Comilla and Faridpur on July 31-Aug 7.
