Khagrachhari, Aug 09 (UNB) – Indigenous people blocked Khagrachhari-Mahalchhari road for 4 hours by placing barricade on it at Mahalchhari protesting police obstruction to their Khagrachhari town–bound procession on Thursday morning.
Witnesses said scores of tribal under the banner of Janasanghati Samati (MN Larma) took out several small processions from different parts of Mahalchhari upazila and gathered at the upazila headquarters in the morning on their way to Khagrachhari town to join a rally, organised to mark World Indigenous Day.
As the procession started for Khagrachhari police obstructed it at 9 am.

Besides, police also obstructed several rallies of ethnic minorities in other parts of the district which were brought out on the occasion of World Indigenous Day today.
Protesting police atrocities Janasanghati Samiti supporters blocked the road disrupting traffic on it for four hours from 9 am.
However, the road blockade was withdrawn following request by the local administration.
Meanwhile, another procession, took out by tribal students from Women`s College, was obstructed by police when it attempted to enter Khagrachhari town to join the indigenous` rally at 10 am.
Speakers at the indigenous rally in Khagrachhari condemned police obstruction to the processions and demanded full implementation of Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Treaty immediately.
