Forest guard shoots to death their own source
Satkhira, Aug 09 (UNB) – A source of Forest Department was mistakenly shot dead by a forest guard in Batlo River in Shyamnagar upazila in Sundarbans East Zone on Thursday.
The dead is Md Rafiqul Islam, 30, son of Md Ali of Matibhamba village of Koira upazila of Khulna. He was a long-time source of Forest Department (Satkhira Range).
Satkhira Range Assistant Forest Conservator (ACF) Towfiqul Islam, quoting Rafique`s cousin Amir Ali said Rafique, Abdul Kuddus, a guard of Kabodak Station Forest outpost and Amir were returning to the Forest outpost by a trawler after collecting firewood from deep forest in the morning.
At the same time forest guard Nizamul Kabir chased a gang of illegal timber lifters who were escaping by a trawler loaded with stolen timber.
At one stage Nizamul Kabir mistakenly put his finger on the trigger of his rifle while chasing the timber thieves resulting in a bullet piercing the thigh of Rafiqul.
He was rushed to Shyamnagar Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
