5 foresters injured in attack by land grabbers in Cox’s Bazar

Cox’s Bazar, Aug 10 (UNB) – Five foresters were injured when they came under attack by a group of land grabbers at Malumghat reserve forest area in Chakaria upazila on Thursday morning.

Locals said Saifullah Ehsan, an influential person of the area along with about 50 supporters swooped on a bamboo copse at Dulahazra and constructed two dwelling houses in a bid to occupy the land in the morning.

Being informed a group of foresters led by forest officer Gazi Bahar Uddin went to the spot. But sensing their presence the land grabbers attacked on them and at one stage opened fire leaving five foresters slightly injured.

Later, the foresters also fired two rounds of bullets in the air to bring the situation under control.

The injured foresters including Gazi Bahar Uddin, 47, Abdus Sobhan, 55, and Selim Hasan, 40, were given first aid at a local hospital.

The land grabbers also looted cash and mobile phone sets from the foresters. A case was filed.
