Bagerhat, Aug 10 (UNB) – Police unearthed a fake battery-making factory and held seven people at Piljang village in Fakirhat upazila on Friday morning.

Police Super Khandaker Rafiqul Islam said a police team arrested Liton Sheikh, son of Hanif Sheikh of Aruaborni village in Chitalmari upazila on Thursday night.

Following his confessional statement later police raided the house of Hanif Sardar of the village and arrested six people along with some batteries with labels of different companies and battery making materials worth about Tk 50 lakh.

However, factory owner Hanif Sardar managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers.

The arrested are: Rafiqul Islam, 40, son of Sukur Dhalai of Shyamnagar upazila, Abu Bakar Howladar, 25, son of Rahim Hawlader, Raju Rahman, 19, son of Matiar Rahman of Fakirhat upazila, Tariqul Islam, 23, son of Sheikh Nazrul Islam of Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj district, Abdur Rahim, 28, son of Karim Sheikh of Sharsha upazila in Jessore district and Mothu Molla, 35, son of Akkas Molla of Lohagara upazila of Narail district.

The arrested people confessed that they were involved in manufacturing and selling fake batteries since long.

A case was filed in this connection.
