
Sylhet, Aug 10 (UNB) - Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Friday said Bangladesh is moving towards progress as the income of its extreme poor has been increasing and the number of poor people decreasing in the country in recent years.
“We’ve achieved self-sufficiency in food with a record of food grains production. Power shortfall has been brought to a tolerable level,” he said at a rally at Bianibazar during his two-day visit to Sylhet.
Nahid said the government has taken up social safety net programmes to ensure food, healthcare and education, and create employment opportunity for the poor. The programmes have changed their lifestyle.
“The government has reached the ICT facilities to the doorsteps of rural people with a view to building a Digital Bangladesh,” he said.
The Education Minister said the government also working sincerely to develop the country’s education sector. “Already we’ve able to bring about a tremendous change in the country’s education.”
He urged all to help the government to expand the country’s education and also ensure quality education.
Local Awami League leaders, public representatives, teachers, students and government officials were present at the rally.
