Sherpur, Aug 10 (UNB) - Accusing former president and BNP’s founder Ziaur Rahman of protecting war criminals, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury on Friday said the trial of war criminals will surely be held on this soil of Bangladesh.

“President Ziaur Rahman brought back war crimes accused Ghulam Azam from Pakistan after 1975. Zia also rehabilitated war criminals, but we would like to say nothing can protect war criminals…the trial of those who had committed crimes against humanity will be held,” she said.

She was addressing a meeting at Taraganj Pilot School field in Nalitabari upazila.

Matia Chowdhury, also a senior Awami League leader, said a particular party of the country oppresses people when it comes to power while another party loots their property while another party works for their welfare after winning elections. “The party led by Hasina is always committed to people’s welfare.”

Later, the minister distributed rice and clothes among poor people.
