Barisal, Aug 11 (UNB) - The body of a housewife, allegedly killed by in-laws over extramarital affair of her husband, was recovered Friday from a ditch at Rajpur village in Mehendiganj upazila.

The victim was identified as Sumi Dey, 22, wife of Apu Dey and daughter of Shushil Kumar.

Riaz Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mehendiganj police station, said police recovered the body bearing marks of torture from the ditch adjacent to the house of the victim.

Rina Dev Nath, mother of the victim, lodged a case and police arrested China Rani Dey, 35, wife of maternal uncle of Apu, in this connection, the OC said.

The complainant alleged that Sumi was married off with Apu, son of Jibon Chandra Dey about one year ago.

Later, Sumi came to know that her husband had an extramarital affair with China, widow of Apu’s maternal uncle. As Sumi protested it her husband and China used to torture her frequently.

On Thursday noon Apu, his family members lodged a general diary with the police station at night that Sumi had fled away from the house.

One Friday morning, local people found the body in the ditch near the house of Apu and informed the police.

Police sent the body to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy in the afternoon.
