Farmer killed in Rangpur clash

Rangpur,  Aug  12  (UNB) - A farmer was killed and two others were injured in a fierce clash between two rival groups over irrigating paddy fields at Shadhukanipara in Kaunia upazila on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Ashraful Islam, 35, son of Imam Ali of the village.

Police and local people said the clash erupted at about 12 noon following an altercation between Nawab Ali and Imam Ali groups over irrigating a paddy field. The rival groups attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving Ashraful  dead on the spot and two others injured.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The injured - Manik Mia and Ekramul Islam - were admitted to the upazila health complex.

Officer-in-charge of Kaunia police station Selim Hossain said the victim’s father filed a case accusing three people in this connection.
