News - Mir Kashem Trial: Prosecution asked to finish probe by Sept 27
Dhaka, Aug 12 (UNB) -The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Sunday asked the investigation agency through the prosecution to submit by September 27 the investigation report on War Crimes accused Mir Kashem Ali, a policymaker of Jamaat-e-Islami.

The tribunal passed the order when prosecutor Sultan Mahmud routinely submitted a progress report on investigation against the accused.

Police produced Mir Kashem Ali, now in custody, before the tribunal amid tight security.

On June 17, plainclothes police arrested Kashem Ali hours after the ICT-1 issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of his alleged crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

According to prosecution, Kashem Ali, the then Chittagong district head of Al Badar, a secret killing squad of Jamaat-e-Islami, had committed crimes against humanity like killings, looting, abduction, genocide, rape and setting fire on the houses of unarmed civilians during the Liberation War in collaboration with Pakistan occupation forces.
