
Dhaka, Aug 12 (UNB) - A Bangladeshi peacekeeper was killed in Sudan in a gun attack on a camp at Darfur on Sunday morning by rebels.
The victims was identified Asgar Ali, 42,, a police constable who joined the UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan in July this year, an intelligence official told UNB.
Ali, who hailed from Santhia in Pabna, left behind wife and two sons. He joined Bangladesh Police in 1996.
According to the sources, the rebels fired shots on the camp about 6:30 am (local time), killing Asgar and two others injured.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of Asgar.
In a condolence message, the Prime Minister said the nation would remember the great sacrifice of Asgar with deep respect as a member of the UN peacekeeping mission, said PM’s Special Assistant (Media) Mahbubul Haque Shakil.
The Prime Minister prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed her deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
