JS body for evicting illegal encroachers from Nat’l Zoo

Dhaka, Aug 12 (UNB) – A parliamentary watchdog on Sunday advised Livestock Directorate to evict the illegal encroachers from the land of the Dhaka National Zoo within a week.

The parliamentary standing committee on Fisheries and Livestock Ministry at its 33rd meeting also suggested amending the laws relating to harmful fishes and increasing the amount of fine against those found involved in cultivation of such fishes.

The meeting was held at Sangsad Bhaban with the committee chairman, ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan, in the chair.

Sources of production, marketing and transportation of the banned fish ‘Piranha’ should be traced out and destroyed and the steps taken by the ministry should be made public through print and electronic media, the meeting was told.

The meeting decided to hold an elaborate discussion about the activities of the Strengthening of Support Services of Combating Avian Influenza in Bangladesh project at its next meeting.

Committee members Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdul Latif Biswas, Mir Shaukat Ali Badsha, Mokbul Hossain, Jafar Iqbal Siddiqui, Manzur Quader Quraishi, Ilias Uddin Molla and Nur Afroz Ali, among others,  attended the meeting.
